Notice

Hello Room 8 and 9 Families,

The following letter was sent through school messenger recapping the conversations, your classroom teacher had with families over the phone.

Hello Students & Families,

For those of you that we were able to reach, it was a pleasure to talk to you and see how everyone was doing! For those that we missed, we’re sorry if we missed you, but we will outline some of the information we covered in this letter. We hope that you and all your family members are healthy, happy and safe.

We will be starting online learning officially April 6th using D2L (https://d2l.cbe.ab.ca/d2l/home) Students log in with their CBE login and passwords. You are still welcome to use the activities on Ms. Moir’s and Ms. Gill’s blog.

The teachers will be working within the regular school hours (9 am - 3:50 pm), however, will be expected to have meetings with our fellow teachers to ensure we are providing our students with similar opportunities. Please feel free to email us if you have any questions and we will try to get back to you as soon as possible. If you email us out of school hours, we will answer the following day.
In the near future, we will be communicating alternate ways to contact us in the event that students need help with assignments (including set times that you can email us and we will be available to call right away, or video chats, etc.).

As per government guidelines, we will be focusing on literacy and numeracy with opportunities to incorporate science and social studies. Their recommendation is 5 hours of work a week. We will have extra activities on D2L that you can have your child do as well.

On Mondays, on D2L, we will be posting a ‘Week at a Glance’ that will let you know the assignments for the week. In an effort to provide flexibility for you and your family, all assignments will be due on Friday at 1pm. This way you will be able to complete the assignments at a time that works best for you.
Finally, most people we contacted had access to technology, but if you don’t please let us know so that we can an arrange something with you.

We understand that this is different way of learning that we are all used to, but we are confident that together we will be able to all be successful.

If you ever have any questions, please don’t hesitate to email us.

Ms. Moir and Ms. Gill

IMPORTANT!!!!! PLEASE READ!!!!

Message from Principal:

Dear Parents,

Based on the changing provincial and local response to COVID-19, the CBE has given us direction to postpone our Celebration of Learning scheduled for tomorrow, March 13th at 10am. We will also be postponing our Student Led Conferences scheduled for Thursday, March 19th.

All CBE schools have been given direction to postpone or cancel events that include populations from other schools and/or parents or other community members, such as Parent-Teacher Interviews, celebrations of learning, drama/musical performances, dances, athletic competitions, etc. This decision is effective from Mar. 12 until the end of March break. This decision will be revisited during March break to determine whether events should be rescheduled.
Events outside of school hours that include the regular student and staff population of the school (school clubs, practices, etc) and scheduled field trips may continue at this time.
I know this may be disappointing news. Students and staff have spent a significant amount of time preparing for this event, but the health of our community is our priority.
For the most up to date information about the CBE’s approach to COVID-19 and the actions we are taking, please visit our website. Answers to frequently asked questions will continue to be posted as information becomes available.

Thank you,

Mona Harswinder Bains
Principal, Chief Justice Milvain School

Friday, March 13th, 2020 Students can wear TLC uniform or CJM GEAR. NO Celebration of Learning TOMORROW.
