Friday October 12th

Hello Amazing Room 8 & 9 Families,

Another busy week of learning and engaging in new ideas, lessons, and wonders.

This week was a SAFETY WEEK:

The whole school participated in a practice fire drill and lockdown. Each class also took part in the safety walk to Colonel J Fred Scott school in case we ever need to evacuate all of CJM to another school.  We also discussed digital safety and looked at what digital citizenship means. How to be responsible when we are online and safe.

Math:
We worked on various word problems involving the use of different operations.
We looked at greater than, less than and equal than questions (<,>, =). We reviewed and practiced show numbers in standard form, expanded form, and written form. Students reviewed the place value of the chart.

Social Studies:
Students looked at the meaning behind the definition of FACT and OPINION. We look at different statements and students discussed if they were facts or opinions and gave reasonings for their choices.  Students also had two hours to research the political party they were assigned. They had to know the party, leader, slogan and party promises.

Students will participate in the STUDENT VOTE next week on THURSDAY, Oct 17th, 2019 Each student created their own STUDENT ID cards to vote.

We watched some of the 2019 Federal Election Party Leader Debates.

SCIENCE:
We looked up various definitions for the weather. We learned of different names of clouds and how high or low they may be. We learned about the water cycle and did the water cycle dance.

Language ARTS:
We continued to read six more pages of the book "FATTY LEGS" together as a read aloud. Students then did a story map in their visual journal. They wrote down character, setting, connections, important events and drew little sketches to go with their writing.

We watch an inspiring video this week about "How to change the world". Check it out below!
